:smt006 I have been thinking about how to solve a challenge on my yak and then thought I wonder if anyone else has this problem and how did others resolve it. One of my yaks, a OK Malibu 2XL Anglers edition, has flush mounted Scotty rod mounts next to the rear seating and the other down by my feet; however when I put those rod holder in the mounts in either in the position next to me or down by my feet. They are just to tight to my body (I am only 6" & 200lb) or my feet can not fit under them. I saw some extensions on eBay and did not know which ones to try... those parts are not inexpensive :smt012
Any one have the same challenge and resolved it? I really want to use these rod holders. :smt010

I've got a couple different extentions on my kayaks. Neccessary to get the poles out of the way, or in reach. I know your up north pretty far, but if you get down to Marysville or further south let me know and you can try my ext's out. I'll dig out a couple of pics and post soon.

How about the Scotty 429?

It would move the rod holders away from you, and above your feet.

I use one of these for the Scotty near my feet. It works perfect for getting the rod butt above my toes. It doesn't come with the deck mount. It's  just the extender rod.

I bought one of the swivel mounts, but don't really like it. It takes 2 hands to use. The extenders are good though.

Since you've already purchased the extensions, this is just something to think about in case they don't work as planned. I had the same type of problem but more of the butts of the rods hitting one another because the mounts were directly behind me. When using the Scotty 429 extensions I was concerned of the amount of torque created because of the length of the rod plus extension. I have a 1/4" polypro backer plates on the backside of the mount to help spread the stress, but when a decent sized lingcod hoked up I was very concerned of the problems that aging of the plastic of the yak combined with this type of stress could create.

When I purchased my new Hobie, I wanted the flexibility of using either Scotty or Ram holders so I had Scotty mounts installed, used Scotty to Ram conversion balls and Ram Rocket Launcher style tubes. This alleviated the majority of the stress on the mount problem because the Ram tubes have a ball fastening system and unless tighten too much will give and the tube will bend towards the fish/snag. Note - Make sure you have your rods leashed.  Plus due to design of the tube the end of your rod will now sit at the point of the mount and not extend inwards towards your feet. I highly recommend the Ram Rocket Launcher style mounts if for no other reason of keeping the deck clear.
