we're thinking about doing a week up there this summer or fall.
Should be a place with a dock and/or beach for the kids to romp around on

any leads on a place would be awesome

Steve check on what its like in the summer. The algae around the lake can get quite bad and it SUCKS. Now a houseboat at Shasta? Oh so cool.

There are lots of places to rent for a week just Google it. I stay in Lake Port myself but in hotels most have docks. I will take a bass boat and a kayak when I go its a big lake. I don't worry about the algae it will wash off. In the summer it will get quite hot. I will fish in the morning before the sun rises till 9:00 or 10:00 then go eat breakfast. You know the place is a big bass lake. The family will play around for the rest of the day like swimming in the lake or the pool or ski. There are shops all around the lake for the misses so go for a drive. On Friday and Saturday at the Lake Port fairgrounds you have car racing, local stuff it can be quite interesting. Back to fishing when dinner is over with its back on the water for some night fishing. My family has spent lots of time (week trips) there and have enjoyed it. You wont find house boats there but those are fun too. A lot more expensive but fun.  What ever you do have fun.

Whenever I look to rent a house I use VRBO.com they give great info and photos of all the homes. I agree that lakeport is a cool little town.
