Both of my factory rear rod holders have popped out and I can't find nor like the compressed washers in there that hold them in. Anyone having this issue and come up with a crafty solution? I have tried rubber gaskets and 5200 with re-drilling some new holes and just using machine screws but its curved so rubber gasket leak and 5200 looses its stick eventually  :smt013

Rob - I mounted 4 flush mount rod holders on my T-15 using these rivets from Hook 1.

http://kayakfishinggear.com/rivets-10perpack-blackanodized-316-seepricediscounts.aspx

Two flush mounts on each side behind seat - one facing straight back, one facing out. Used a rubber gasket and Marine Goop.  No problems in 3 years including use for ocean salmon trolling with 1 lb balls.  I got the flush mounts with 4 screw/rivet holes. The OK stock flush mounts have 3 screws, at least the older models do. Not sure if that might make a difference or not.

Got a pic Rob? The description is leaving me a bit confused. Do you mean to say that the rod holder broke off at the upper flange on the deck of the boat?

my sons trident 13 rear rod holder came out.  As he paddled he kept hitting one rod, and the blind rivets worked loose.  I was able to use two larger rivets and one screw with a washer and nut to secure it.

Screws and well nuts are junk.....the spider rivets and marine sealant that Bird posted will do you right.  I bounce ball 2-3 lbs of lead trolling for halibut......they've held solid, even on the three hole flush mounts.

Thanks John, I'll get those ordered. I tried a plastic version of those and they didn't work but those look beefy.

Craig here are some pictures, to me it looks like OK overdrills the hole size too much

Probably has something to do with me transporting my yak topside down on my roof rack, but..

Wow, those holes are way too big. I wonder if your kayak will still be under warranty. It doesn't hurt to ask. Good luck Rob.

Those holes are way too large Rob. I dont believe you can even access that area with your hand. Can you? You could go up to the next size rivet that folds like the ones John posted. Another idea is using nutserts but those are meant for use on metal. Not much of the nutsert rolls over around the edge of the hole and the plastic would be too giving to hold it. Did you say the dealer you bought the kayak from drilled the holes? When are you coming down this way. We could fix it at the shop I am sure. Pm me your phone # I have those rivets at the shop. Want me to mail some to you?

Rob - yeah those holes appear too big.  I'd go with the rivets.  But I'd add some backing plate on the underside of the current holes and then re-drill holes that are just large enough to insert the rivet. Maybe glue the backing plate in position. Might also be able to use washers with the right size holes for the rivets, glue them to the underside of the current holes. This will strengthen the area around the holes and provide more surface for the pop rivet to grab - should take care of the problem.  I would not just use the pop rivets with those large holes - greater chance they could pull free again.

Not sure if dealer did it, I assume not, but that's how large the holes were when the tubed popped out.  Backing plate sounds mandatory!

I can see now from the pics that you probably cant reach that area by hand or I would thru bolt it instaed of rivets. The rivets are on the way Rob. 2 different sizes. Craig. The larger ones wont need backup washers anyway.
