I heard on the radio this morning that when they found the kids, they had removed their tanks, and the tanks were left on the sea floor during the recovery. Only things I could think of were closed valves or empty tanks. Maybe a regulator malfunction and an accident while sharing a single reg?
so tragic.

That is bizarre. How would they check the tanks for bad air? That's one of the things that needs to be looked into.

Hard to believe that this was an accident.

if I remember correctly you can "narc" and act erratically.  Wonder if that was an issue here?

Well, they would have to have been down 100 feet or so for narcosis to occur - and I do not think they were that deep - but we need a LOT more details before any conclusions could be drawn.

I haven't been diving for a long time, but wouldn't any empty tank float? I remember when getting low on air my ass would float up.
