Hi NCKA - as I do a bit more research, I wanted to know what places you guys recommend for a newb in the South/East Bay regions.  I have tried Calero/Anderson for Bass a few times, mostly skunked, couple small catches.  This year I have been working on trout, but it seems few and far between for good consistent catching.  I have been doing Quarry in Fremont, and getting skunked 7/10.  Do you guys find being on a Yak makes fishing more successful, I can certainly see it being more fun, and being able to access the whole lake more easily seems a huge advantage.  Does a FF and Yak help in say, Quarry.  Any other locations to consider?

Thanks again.

Quarry, and the others you mentioned are good for the area. I think having a FF is a good thing and having a yak gives you a huge advantage in catching fish. Unfortunately for me, even after having a yak with a FF onboard, I'm still a crappy fisherman. :) I'd rather freeze my tail off on a kayak on the Quarry and get skunked, than be warm and toasty in a cubicle somewhere, any day!

Yes, the FF helps, but I don't use it for finding fish as much as finding likely areas where fish might be, (dropoffs, structure).

Thanks for the input - I figured the FF would really help more with underwater structure etc, showing me depths and possible holding spots underwater for various species.  If I know the depth and structure layout, I have a much better chance of picking the right rig.

Great input - thanks.  I agree, I would also rather be frozen on a yak in Quarry than many places.  :)
