I'm game!

One of my most memorable back packing trips was at Kings Canyon. I caught (and released) a bunch of wild rainbows, one brown and a few Golden Trout. I NEED to go back out there!

I'm surprised that they listed the Paiute trout. Talk about a species on the brink of extinction. I'm not sure that any publicity for this fish is a good thing. Next thing you know, folks will be fishing above the falls...

You ever get anywhere on the Heritage Trout Challenge? My brother and I started it a few years ago and still have one or two each. Some really fun trips trying to find the little creeks a lot of those natives hang out in. In '09 three of us went to Wyoming and did the Cuttslam in a week. I managed to catch all 4 species on a single fly which I have promptly lost. The Cuttslam is a little easier as the drainages for each subspecies are very close together unlike the Golden Trout and Goose Lake Redbands of California.
And you could hear me screaming a mile away as I was headed out for the door....

At one point I was going to get underwater photos of all the cutthroat subspecies.  Currently I have;

Lahontan
Bonneville
Yellowstone
Snake River
Greenback
Rio Grande
Colorado
Coastal

I still need a Westslope and I'd like to reshoot most of them and add video.

Where did find the Bonnelville and Colorado?

So I'm packing my bags for the Misty Mountains, where the spirits go...........

You can find the Bonneville, the Colorado and the Snake all in the TriBasin divide area of Wyoming.

Sorry for the cut and past:

Three of us just got back from 7 days in Wyoming. We were all able to complete the Cutt Slam on our first attempt: http://gf.state.wy.us/services/customers/cuttslam/index.asp  I had some trouble getting the first Boneville Cutthroat but was able to pull it off the second day nymphing some pocket water.  I had never been to Jackson Hole or Yellowstone before, both of which were complete zoos! The water was way different from anything I am familiar with in California. Most of the streams consisted of very shallow riffles that just went on for miles. We had our best luck in willow lined meadows:

When we found deep holes we could get a few fish:

We saw tons of wildlife including Moose, Antelope, Elk, Grizzly Bear, Mule Deer and Bison:

The scenery was amazing, especially the Tetons:

And then there were the Cutthroat (do it yourself, don't try and steal our FISH!):

I highly recommend trying to accomplish the Cutt Slam to anybody thinking about trying. We had a great time and were able to camp cheaply everywhere we went.
And you could hear me screaming a mile away as I was headed out for the door....

The Bonneville was in Hendrys Creek in the Snake Range of Nevada, just north of Great Basin National Park.  The Colorado River was in Timber Creek in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Correct the Greenback was on the other side of the mountain in Ouzel Creek.
