I got skunked today but these guys did not -- they were coming in as I was going out about 1:00 pm so I snapped some pix.  They were using sardines. I was fishing with plastics.  I got bit but no joy. -- perhaps another day :smt006

Nice try out there!

One season I fished swimbaits as the weight drifting anchovys and herring for halibut. Out of 18 fish caught of which about half were legal I had exactly one shaker and one striped bass on the swimbait.

Kinda tells you the odds of halibut on the lure versus bait.

I know some guys kill em on lures in the surf and off they shore but I've never had it happen for me.

Yeah == I need to make a bait tube and start fishing bait if I'm going to target halibut.  These guys know what they're doing and I should learn from them.   Let's see if I do.   I've known this for a while and still have not done anything about it.  (slow learner).  :smt005

Right on. Frozen works pretty good too. Especially on a fast drift off a three way dropper rig.

Good luck out there!
