The River is finally in decent shape of course I had already made plans to take my wife and Daughter to SF to play tourist Sat. It was beautiful what a day to spend in the City. Sun had to get some WAF so I headed to the river late 1pm. Not much was happening so I really didn't put much effort into it. It was smoking hot in waders. Got to on of my favorite spots on my 3rd cast hooked up but it came off right away. I figured that was it but 2 cast later Fish On Hot fish got out into the current and ripped out about 100yds. long fight but hook held. Man I love the way those fish fight. was going to release but I couldn't get her to swim away, make Mom happy and I can use the bait.

Oh Mickfish ... you're killing me.  I've been spending a bit of time on the local rivers up here in Seattle and have yet to tie into one of those beauties.  In fact I was out on Friday and today as well.  No joy!  Steelhead are to me what sturgeon are to Chuck!

Very Nice!

From the yak or shore?

The Russian River?

Lure?

Thanks! If I can ever tear myself away from sturgeon hunting I'd like to give it a shot! I'm fishing tomorrow afternoon. Not sure where yet, though.

Shore

Yep Russian mouth of Dry Creek

Spin Glo with a small piece of shrimp.

Dustin the water conditions are a little high but the color is perfect, fish the slower seams close to the bank.

Mickfish,

How long does the season on the Russian last?  The hatchery season is winding down up here with many of the fish dark and heading downstream.  Though the native run is just starting now, but most of the local rivers close at the end of the month.

Roger that.

Ukiah's too far to go to after work, though...and I can't seem to be able to tear myself away from sturgeon hunting.  :smt003

I need to get another keeper sturgeon for the pool - then I can think about other fish on the list.

BTW - Any way to hook and land a steelhead from the yak?

A steelhead is a trout right?

Might be the best bet for getting points in the trout section, since I NEVER fish for trout any other time.

Most years middle of March, although it seems like there always a few fish in the system except during the dog days of summer.
A couple of years ago I had some great fishing during  Easter week.

Nice job Mike.

What are you going to do with the roe?  Steelhead or sturgeon?  Either way, I hope you can turn it into more fish.

Nice!  So where is it that you put in at the mouth of dry creek? I know you cant fish dry creek, but ive heard from a few friends that the mouth is the spot to be. I caught two wild steelies last year both around 7-8 lbs over by summer home park. Those fish jumped atleast 9 times each! they are on the top of my list for fighting no doubt. Im about to head up to the Mad River which is now finally starting to drop. But rain on Friday! no!! .. haha..  good stuff!
