Well it was my plan this afternoon to catch some lizardfish, cut them up and try using that for perch bait along the breakwater.  But on the way to catch lizardfish I caught a legal sandbass (released -- see pix) and a short halibut.  I'm pretty sure the halibut was short but I never actually got to measure it.  As I reached for my camera, leaving it over the side in the water, so as not injure it, it came unbuttoned.  Oh well, you've all seen short halibut.   :smt005  That changed my plan and I spent the rest of the afternoon chasing halibut and/or sandbass to no avail.  (did miss several, though.)  At dusk the wind really came up quite strong and I was glad to be a pedaler and not a paddler.  I was not too far afield but was happy to be pedaling home against the wind. -- That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.   :smt006

Wtg on hooking up with some sandbass!! They are fun to catch, as I was fortunate to catch some while I was yak fishing in SD Bay and La Jolla earlier this year.

I do plan to take my yak again down south sometime in the summer, maybe we can hookup then :)

Thanks again for sharing your reports from So Cal. Btw, a legal hali should be coming your way soon. Looking forward to reading that report!!

I believe you...Fishermen don't lie, they just exaggerate a little!  :smt003  Thanks for the report and picture Dave.

Just to show how much of a newbie I am -- here's a guy who was fishing on the "outside" (of the breakwater) this past weekend, and he really did well.   (If you believe fishermen  :smt003 )   And I do believe him.

I think that link can be reached externally -- He caught quite a few sandbass and some calicos and there are some great pix -- I've not really hooked up with any folks down here yet and need some surf launch training *and* a buddy before I surf launch on the outside at Cabrillo.  But that's a next step for me.  I am getting to know a few people.
