I haven't been sturgeon fishing in ten years or more and had a few questions. I was on the fish and game regulation website and it states that you cannot use steel leader line or use a gaff to land the fish. If I cant use steel leader what setup can I use? And as far as gaffing goes, is a noose legal to use? Any thoughts on this would be helpful.

60-80 lb mono or braid. Apparently the latter (braid) is the current norm as O2B educated me in another post (damn those old wise guys) and yes you can use a noose/snare

It looks like Shasta, Tehama, and Glenn countys are no wire leaders what I can find in the regs. If I'm wrong let me know because I use them.

You can use SS wire leaders for sturgeon. You can use a snare to help land a sturgeon.  You can use braided line but I dont.  I use 60lb mono. You cannot use a gaff to land a sturgeon. You must carry a net with while fishing on the ocean or bays no less than 18 inches in diameter. In the ocean regs you will find no restriction for wire leaders.

Thanks for the info. Better safe than sorry. I was having a hard time reading the regs. Do they have a fishing regulations for dummies book? haha
