Elk are down out of the high country, and trying to find feed in the hay fields.  Good to see a few dandy bulls made it through the hunting season. Wish I had made it back up over Thanksgiving to hunt, but oh well. Would like to head up and do some horn hunting in Feb, but not sure if I will be able to or not. Home is just too far away, and they keep teasing me with these kind of pics. Bastards.

Thats very cool. Beautiful animals.
I mean, no doubt they are tasty too, but somehow the sight of a herd of wild animals like that, in this modern age of x-boxes & smartphones.....gives joy to my heart. Its like seeing a school of 50lb WSB.

I totally agree! One thing that tore me up when I was up there in September, was the lack of bighorn sheep. Usually, there are herds of 10-100 up on the mountain behind these elk.  There was a massive die of last winter, they contacted a strain of pneumonia and pretty much wiped out the herds.  The elk are expanding and going strong, and mule deer are coming back well too. Man I love the outdoors.

The deadline to apply is March 15 I think.  the bad news, the license almost DOUBLED! It is right at a grand for this next year.  You have to have the money upfront, as in a credit card or check, it is not like Cali where you pay if you draw.  If you dont draw, they send out a refund, minus fees. I will be applying, and can do a party application, so PM me if interested. I will look into whether or not party apps need checks or if a guy can float the whole amount on a card. Good news, you will be hunting both private and public, horses available at no cost, and ATVs already up there. Fishing is out of this world, and there is no lodging fees. I can take myself +3 comfortably in my truck, so shared fuel and travel cuts it way down. Let me know.

Now thas cool! Awesome to see some elk doing well, as well as the mule deer up there :D I hope that bighorn will come back with stronger breed of herds with the remaining survivors. Thanks for sharing some reports back at home, and I wish you and your family a joyful new year!! :D

-161 revises the laws related to nonresident big game and deer hunting licenses. It abolishes outfitter-sponsored nonresident big game and deer combination licenses, replacing the 5,500 outfitter-sponsored big game licenses with 5,500 additional general nonresident big game licenses. It also increases the nonresident big game combination license fee from $628 to $897 and the nonresident deer combination license fee from $328 to $527. It provides for future adjustments of these fees for inflation. The initiative allocates a share of the proceeds from these nonresident hunting license fees to provide hunting access and preserve and restore habitat.
Wow I can get a combo in Idaho for that and Co.
