I am looking at entering a sturgeon derby this weekend. It is put on my McAvoy Harbor in Bay Point. It is a 2 day tournament but I will only be able to fish it Saturday. $30 entry fee. Last year they paid out $21,000 each day of the derby in prizes. 12K for 1st place alone.
They choose a number between 46 and 72 and that is the target. If more than one entry hits the target I think the names go into a hat and they draw. The only prob is that you have to have a CF # to enter. No shore anglers either. I am headed to DMV to register my yak. It will be like $10. I got Friday off so I can go to the harbor and pay and get the info. I was thinking of headed to Bodega or somewhere Friday afternoon to pump some shrimp as I am sure everywhere will be sold out. There are over 700 boats entering.
I was wondering if anyone might be interested?
One prob is that the fish entered has to be ALIVE without any damage to the head or tail.
I haven't decided where to fish yet. I still have some logistics to go over.
I know it is 40 miles from Buck's the McAvoy. Not sure I could keep a fish alive that long even in a horse trough with water in the back of my truck.
Like I said, I haven't decided where to fish yet in relation to the harbor. I am familiar with Buck's tho. If anyone would be so kind as to PM me with the numbers of the sweet spot I would be grateful ( especially if I come back with some $$$ ) :smt002
If anyone has some suggestions of a hot spot or wants to just go out and fish let me know.
Rain or shine I am fishing for sturgeon Saturday.

Hi Tote,

It sound like you have a well-Worth  mission ahead of you if accomplished, especially to try and bring a live Dino to the scales with the platform you will be using (Kayak). I wish you lots of luck!!! And if you pull it of and end up on top you will be definitely the Sturgeon God in my book!

Again Good Luck!!!!

The strugeon derby may need to be canceled, I heard on the news last night that DFG is meeting today to discuss a proposed emergency closure on white sturgeon.
