Hey Y'all.  First I want to say Merry Christmas and Happiest of Holidays to you!
I just got married and will be attending a family reunion in Asilomar just after Christmas for a few days.
I can't bring my kayak and speargun but was wondering about the surf fishing.
Question...  Should I bring a flyrod/spinning outfit to fish the surf?
Should I bring a shovel to clam?
Should I just chill out and focus on my family as they drag me away from the aquarium?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks! :smt006

Congratulation on your marriage!  BTW, you mean Asiloma don't you?  :smt003

Since you're "freshly" married, I would recommended to "chill out and focus" on your wife and start earning the WAF's points.

Congrats on getting married!! :D

Before going out fishing there, make sure that fishing is permissible. I believe that Asilomar is off-limits. Hopefully someone can verify this :)

If you plan to surf fish, areas to consider are: Carmel River State, Marina State, MossLanding/Salinas River State/Zmudowski.

But I think Sonny's advice is a good one, especially being "newlyweds". Remember, we've got lots of opportunities to fish!! :D

First:       The aquarium are anti fishing supporters I would not go there.
Second:   Congrats on the marriage.
Third:      Why cant you do the reunion and fish.

Thanks for the advice!  She knows that I am a fishing nut and that I bring a stick everywhere I go.  :smt003
I warned her that when we take our honeymoon, the flyrod comes too!  She said "I figured as much."  This is one of the reasons I married her.
I will check the regs for sure and look up these places you mentioned.
Thanks!

That's nice to hear. My wife has that same attitude. This is our 30Th anniversary coming up.

Congratulations reelfish!
What an inspiration!  My wife pulls me aside when I'm grumpy or irritable and sweetly reminds me that I haven't been fishing enough.  :smt007  She says I shouldn't go too long without kayaking because I get "in a way." :smt005
I seriously wish this on all my kayaking brethren. :smt008

Congratulations!

I'd tell my (ex) wife I'd take her on a waterfront picnic: Bottle of wine, nice food, maybe a little BBQ and she'd go  gaga over the attention. Then she'd see the fishing rod. "God dammit, this isn't a picinic, you're going FISHING!!"

i came home one night and found a card from the wife that said i love you here is $500 dollars for gas, gas at the time was nearing 5.00 a gallon and i owned an old dodge ram charger, go fishing anywhere that will make you happy, and come home with a smile or else, so i left healdsburg drove to dutch john utah and fished section A of the green river for a day and a half and came home happy as a clam, we will celebrate 10 years next week, cameron

You can fish asilomar with hook and line. I would bring a poke pole lots of eel there. Too snaggy for a pole. Congrats and good luck.
