Does anyone have experience with car racks where the tower snap into the tracks?  The tracks connected to the roof of the car with rivets (so the tracks are permanent).  The towers are easily removed or connected.  I think it is a Thule product.  I bought a new truck w/o a factory roof rack and I want to stay away from the door jam models.

Thanks - Kevin

I don't have any experience with those. Have you gone over to SPort Rack? Those guys have always been super helpful when I was looking for racks.

Kevin - try calling REI in San Carlos and ask for Brian or Rich = they know a lot about car racks.

I went to the Sportsrack on Camden last weekend.  They showed me my 2 options:  1)  towers that attach to the door jam and 2)  these "factory" track systems.

The main thing I worry about the track system is the tracks are permanent - the track is on top of the roof and sticks up ~ 3/8".  Might not be too bad is the truck is a bit taller.

Joel - I'll call over to San Carlos and see what my 3rd option is.

Thanks - Kevin
