Hello,

I want to start Kayak fishing and I would appreciate any help I can get right now.  I am 6'1" tall / 320 pounds, so the Cobra Dish N' Dive looks like the best boat for me.  I live in Monterey, CA and want to make a purchase before Christmas.   I have a few questions and I would appreciate your help.

1.  Where should I purchase a Cobra Fish N' Dive from?
2.  Should I go with the Super Package, or go with the Recreation Package?
3.  Any other things I should know before buying it?

Thank you for your help!

T.J.

1.  Where should I purchase a Cobra Fish N' Dive from?  Good place to start is Monterey Bay Kayak.  Not sure if they carry this brand but they will help you locate a dealer if they don't have it.
2.  Should I go with the Super Package, or go with the Recreation Package?  Not sure the differences between these 2 packages.
3.  Any other things I should know before buying it? Test paddle it first if you can.

Thank you for your help!

How is the factory high back seat that the Cobra FND comes with?    Is it any good.  Currently I'm looking at the Harmony Fishing seat because it looks a little better.

Welcome....So did you decide on the FnD based on your size? Or other factors. Yes you are a big guy but there are some other big boys on this site. So you may want to see what they paddle.

If that is the boat I think a few use it so they may be able to help you locate a dealer.

Yes I did make my decision based on my size.  Since I'm soooo heavy I wanted the widest boat I can find.  The second runner up was the OC Big Game Prowler.

But if were you, I'd demo some other kayaks before you decide on purchasing one. Here's a couple that you should demo....

Malibu Kayaks - X- Factor
Wilderness System - Tarpon - T-130
Ocean Kayaks - Trident 15

Nice, thanks Mooch!  I'm gonna give Half Moon Bay Kayak Co. a call tomorrow morning.
Good link for the seats too, they look nice.  Thanks and I'll keep you posted on the call tomorrow!

Hey BB - before purchasing I would recommend demoing an Ocean Kayak Trident-15.  Weight capacity is 500-550 lbs.  Alot of big guys use this boat.  It is super stable on the ocean. At 29" wide it will paddle much better than the FnD and Big Game.  It will carry your weight, with better performance.  You will appreciate the better performance as soon as you spend some time on the ocean.

Alot of big guys also use the x-factor, but I have no experience with that boat.

Gotta agree, T-15 is a great boat

Does anyone recommend a specific Paddle for the Cobra Fish and Dive?  I's assuming the one it comes with is garbage, so I won't waste my money on it.  I'm probably better off on going aftermarket...

Let me know what you guys think.  And thank you again for all of the comments!
