Just heard on the radio...A group of people crabbing went down this morning, north of Bodega...One dead, two hospitalized, several treated at the scene...Not a soul on board, wearing a PFD...And the conditions this morning were pretty rough/gale force winds/9 ft. seas...My thoughts and prayers go out to all their families and friends...To all my new friends on here...Wish you all a safe and serene Holiday...Loco

safety.....and crabbing.  Boat wrapped a pot line in their prop, likely drug their stern under with each passing swell and flooded the cockpit until it flipped.  .

Keep a knife handy.  Dress for immersion. Never tie off to a trap (this can also happen in anchoring if you don't leave enough scope of have a bungee shock section).  Don't drop your pots in a area of high traffic, make sure your line is weighted and your float is visible.  Use your better judgenment when deciding if the conditions are doable for your skill level.....etc...

Godspeed fisherman and condolences to the family and survivors.

I was just mentioning that this year we seem to have dodged a situation like this. Every year is seems someone has "crab fever" and goes out when then wx isn't good. Almost made it by this year.....Sad.

Seems to me common sense is thee #1 safety item.

I've said it before an I guess I'll say it again. I do not understand why anyone even considers not wearing a life jacket.
