Rey graciously invited me to go crabbing with him on his boat.  It was beautiful on there today, sunny and basically flat.  We get out to the grounds and it looks like you can walk across the water with all the floats out there.  We finally decided to drop the traps in a few spots that weren't covered and waited.  We pulled the traps and had mixed results.  One had a limit of legals while others had very few.  I had to pick up my kids from school and Rey brought me back to the dock and told me to take more than my share.  He reasoned that he was staying later and would get more.  whatta nice guy.

I think we need to find another area to crab next time.  It was a mine field out there today with all those commercial pots and I think they moved our pots.  Took us a while to find them.  I think they are telling us to stay away.  Glad you made it back on time to pickup your kids and still have some crabs to show the wifey.  Nice talking to you about your La Jolla spear fishing adventures.  I know I will have to go there soon and really see what it's like under water.  We saw shellback and another kayaker on the way to pick up their pot but did not hear from then again after that.  Lost another darn pot but found the one I lost Sunday but there were no crabs.  It looks like the escaped ring broke and all the crabs was able to escape.

I'm having the best time of my life fishing/crabbing with the NCKA dudes.  I'm glad I got the boat cause old men like me just can't do all that work peddling anymore.  I've never met so many nice bunch of fishing guys till I joined the NCKA.  I hope they don't ban me for not doing much fishing with my yak.   :smt003

Rey, you are a such a kind and awesome brother!! You guys have been doing well out there, just hoping that the commercial boats will spare us some crabs and space :P

Brother Rey was also gracious enough to offer me on his boat to do some crabbing as well. I will definitely be taking his offer when time permits :D

Btw, there is no way that NCKA's gonna ban you!! You're part of the family :D

Did an overnight soak this week and ALL of my traps were raided and moved. They even took the catfood.  :smt013

Hmmm, between commercial squiders and the crabbers, not too impressed with their behavior.... :smt011 shame that sort of stuff goes on...... I read in the paper last week how one oregon based boat took 30 tons by midnight the first day!!! 60,000 lbs!!! one boat in one night!!! Trying to get as much to market as they could before the price per lb drops due to a crab glut. Greed can really bring out the worst in folks sometimes....
