Hit Doran with Mojo on Veterans Day for an easy limit of crabs.  Ended up tossing back quite a few legal crab to keep the jumbo models.  It is really amazing how many crab there are out there!

I had Friday off work so I decided to leave the traps out overnight and bring the kids out in the morning .  Could not have picked a better day for it, sun, no wind, no waves.  perfect for bringing the kids out for the first time.

now the disappointing part.  4 out of the 5 traps (promar collapsible) came up with no dungeness.  There were a few rock crab, but that is it.  upon inspection of the traps, the crabs had managed to chew or untie the string that holds the escape rings in and so once the bait was gone, so were they!  So if you have these traps, throw a few zip ties to help secure the escape rings.  one of the traps even had a few other areas that were starting to unravel, which I am still working on repairing.  I don't think I will be leaving them overnight anymore.

On the positive side, the one trap that was still intact had 15 leagal dungeness!

Saw a number of other kayakers out there and one of them (sorry I did not get your name) was nice enough to help me get the kayak back to the truck.

Sweet report. The rings are suposed to fall out, they are designed so that if you loose the traps the organic string will carode and release the crabs inside. The string is supposed to degrade insalt water so I check mine every time I pull them.. I was told when I purchase my traps it is illegalto use anything but organic string.
