CrAzY sad, Andy Irons dies at 32. WTF..

Grew up hearing about this kid.... Hes younger then I am but a big part of my life as a surfing fan..

Definitely a sad one, Dengue is no joke my cousin lost all his child on dengue 3 of them, early detection could have save him..Thats the problem with us outdoorsmen we take minor sickness for granted...

This news is tough, with our local surf scene being all about meth dealing and one grandstanding oldster right now.

how does that happen?  a guy can cheat death his whole life, but then lose a battle to a germ?

Yeah, Porky, I got this from BoingBoing...He may have been self medicating. From what I hear pain pills have an adverse effect on this bug.

If you're not a surfer, or into surfing culture, the name probably won't be familiar. But those who do recognize him as one of the greats.  Andy Irons died this week at 32. His family said he was battling Dengue fever, a disease carried by mosquitoes and endemic to countries in the tropics including Puerto Rico, where Irons was scheduled to compete. But today, reports are circulating of an investigation of Iron's death as a possible methadone overdose. This and other medications were reportedly found in the hotel room where he died.

As an über talented athlete there were few in any sport that could even be near his level. His competitive battles w/ Slater were like the early days of Jordan and Bird. I'm glad I got to witness some of those. Surfing was better for that rivalry. AI, you're gonna be greatly missed bruddah.
