I am considering creating an online service for "fish finding", rules, trips, etc. Your comments w/be appreciated.

Would have some web page allowing following fields (fish, location, date, trips) to be entered and list of hits returned. There are so many rules and regs in dfg manual...it would be good to store them in database and then cross reference stuff.

Schema of database would be something like following:
fish
-type (Sturgeon, Striped bass, salmon, etc.)
-rigging (sturgeon rig, halibut rig, etc.)
-rules (no gaff for sturgeon, salmon, etc.)
-hot spots (san pablo bay for sturgeon, etc.)

in season
-Given date, location and type of fish, determine if it can be caught.

date
   -date of fishing trip

forecast
   -forecast for given date/location

location
-area (San Pablo bay, San Francisco bay, etc.)
-fish present (Sturgeon for San Pablo bay, etc.)
   -launch areas
   -tackle stores

trip
   -location
   -date
   -people attending

GPS coordinates?

Excellent...this could tie together location/area and trip.

Locations could have "sub-locations"...which might point to hotspots in an area (like duck blind in san pablo bay, etc.) and could refine a "trip", refining spot where people are meeting.

Mike, make sure you ping Bill, the proprietor of this here establishment.  He's been thinking of a fishing mashup, maybe you two could collaborate a bit.
