what Alan is reffering to is that 25 pound line is to small in diameter and will most likely get caught/snared into the side plates and wreck havoc on you.  Some of his post call for using nothing less than 30 lb mono as it is less prone to get caught in the side plates.  I have narrowed 500 that is Tani/Newell combo and it is the bomb.  A little heavy but as some one posted you can always use it to beat the fish to submission!

I work in a greenhouse and we have miles of 1.25 pipe.  We have stuff we bought used in the seventies, so probably 60 years old.  They rarely fail.  But the new lines we added blow a leak in about 2 years on average.

I use 30# mono on my Penn 85's and have no problems with it getting caught in the sideplates.  I always use 20 or 25# fluoro as part of my terminal gear and if I get hung up and have to break off  I don't lose a lot of line, usually breaks at the fluoro knot.

I use Suffix mono which I think is a bit thicker than most 30# mono's.
