My first post here....My buddy and I were stoked to head out to Bean this saturday (10/9) and the forecast looks great, but something about 80 ft of rotting whale has made us seek another launch.  So that led to a couple of questions.  Is it a decent launch right at the Ritz in HMB?  Can you walk through that path the goes through the 2nd hole of the golf course for a launch?  How's the fishing?
Next batter up...(sorry can't help the baseball reference after Lincecum just had 14Ks)...any experiences worth sharing for launching at Linda Mar and fishing Pedro point?
I really appreciate all the info I have found on here in the last couple weeks.

I thought they had already disposed of the whale? Sorry, don't know about launching at the Ritz and I've mostly done poorly at Lindamar myself. I've launched out of HMB harbor and done o.k. on the rf & lings paddling all the way down to the Ritz and back though. I think if you scroll back thru the hookups for this last summer you'll find a few other spots between S.F. and S.C. to launch at. Good Luck! jim

I've watched the reefs along the ritz quite a bit....it looks doable but its unpredictable and there's usually always a break there. There's a couple paths in and out but the paddle to clear the breaks is long, stow everything on launch and landing.  Return on a low tide. Shark wise, I wouldn't consider it any safer than the bean. Good luck if you try it.

Looks like the trip to explore other launches on the San Mateo Coast will have to wait for another day....cold/flu season strikes!
Golfish--maybe we can fish together soon.  The "putting in (at) the ritz" has some kind of ring to it...

Good luck waterfalljoe hope it's a quick recovery. A launch in Half Moon Bay south would be a good find. I think Martins beach is closed now.
On a side note. I would steer clear of Bean Hollow for a while. these pix are from today. There is probably all kinds of nasty stuff in the water there.

LowNow...awesome pics.  That ex-whale is gonna be around for a loooonngg while.
This looks like some great motivation to find some secret spot on the San Mateo Coast before the end of rockfish season.

i checked out the Ritz Carlton in half Moon Bay last Sunday. Its just south of Three Rock. Theres free parking and good paved beach access with steps at the bottom. There was a solid 8' swell at high tide when I checked it out. But the launch didn't look to bad. just a small Monastery type shore pound but clear sailing after that.
The next beach down was Cowell Ranch State beach in front of Seal Rock. it didn't look launch-able. thats as far south as I got.

Monastery Beach, is in the Carmel area. It's notorious for it's tricky entry's and exits. The beach is steep so the waves break right on shore. Divers exit on all fours. They call it "doing the Monastery Crawl." If they miss-time it they get to have what we call a yard sale :smt044
