Does anybody know of a place that I can buy from online that has a coupon or gives an NCKA/NWKA discount for Yakima products?

I took a trip a couple weeks ago with a friend that had the Yakima boat loader bar. I have never had too much trouble loading my boats before, but when we used the boat loader bar it made putting boats on top of a camper shell effortless! Now I need to buy one (or two, one for each side of the truck).

Austin City Kayaks has a great 20% coupon, but Yakima products are exempt.  :smt012
The loader bars aren't too expensive, but I hate paying retail for anything. The cheapeast I've found is $80/each with free shipping. Other palces have them cheaper, but charge an arm and a leg for shipping.

Jay, i bought one on craigslist for $30 before.  might be able to find one somewhere?  they are a great improvement for the end of the day when you're busted tired.

its sold on austinkayak for $71.10 with free shipping and no tax.  their coupons don't work on yakima products because they are already sold discounted.

they are also sold on amazon for that price, and a little under $70 from third parties on amazon after shipping.

wait isn't it just a tube inside of the cross bar tube. Seems like a simple home build

it is indeed an aluminum bar inside of the cross bar tube.

it also has a sand dollar shape at the end of it and a small clamp to prevent it from sliding in and out too easily (that's what she said!)

so build some for us bergie =) i'll even find you a real sand dollar to attach to the end!

It is basically an aluminum bar sort of the same way a fishing rod is just a stick. You could just use a stick, but you lose a bit in the translation. The boat loader is built to fit perfectly in the cross bars and store inside the crossbars so you never have to look for it. The sand dollar on the end keeps your boat from sliding off while loading too.

To build something exactly like it would be beyond my ability, and I have no desire to ghetto rig an aluminum bar that I would have to cart around in the bed of my truck. For $80, I figure I'm saving myself trips to the hardware store, the possibility of losing the rigged up replacement, and buying myself a little more homebrew and rod building hobby time.  :smt003

OK fine if you are trading for home brew and custom sticks that's a fair trade. Hey, for a custom stick I will make you two and ship them to ya! Sand dollars included!

Through NWKA I ended up with a 15% off coupon, free shipping, and no sales tax buying at Outdoor Play. With those discounts I was able to get the Boat Loader for $67  :smt007

If anybody is ever headed north, you should tie in with the NWKA crew. They are good folks, just like NCKA. Now I can spend the weekend brewing my Winter Warmer  :beer1

Thanks for the offer Eric! I like the bars I purchased, but I'd be happy to build you a custom sometime. I don't have anywhere near the skills that Kunz has, but I make some nice stuff. This winter I have plans to re-wrap two of my older rods, and maybe build a 20lb class spinning rod for the "someday" Baja trip.

Group IQ is inversely proportional to the size of the group.

That's a good base price, but with shipping to Idaho it costs a dollar more than Outdoor Play :smt044
