Went out this afternoon and -- a rare day - no wind.  It was flat, like a lake and slightly overcast.   I did not catch a thing, had a few bites but they were not energetic.  The lack of wind gave me more range and I went quite a ways -- to the bend in the breakwater, to the bait receiver (pix), and around the fishing pier. -- Urban fishing for sure -- nothing like the rustic charm of LA Harbor.

It was a great day, even if skunked.  Birds and bait everywhere but no fish for Dave.

Thanks for the report, don't think I've seen one from the harbor like that before,

At least you were OTW,

What was it you were expecting to catch?

Being an honorable sportsman is way more important than what you catch.

WTG, so one would expect to catch small keepers everytime next year,, :smt002 just never seems to work that way does it.

For a while I tred a larger scampi and it worked up to a point.  Bigger scampi, fewer bites but larger fish .. up to the point of no bites.  (my largest scampi).  I think if I were patient with a larger scampi I would eventually bump into a legal fish.   So far all of this seems to work when there is a bit more wind and I can set up a good drift in the afternoon.

Most folks down here have said I need to switch to live bait, which I believe.  I'm trying to make my own bait but not having much luck with the sabiki rig thus far.  Most of the bait I'm seeing are small 'chovies.  I also need to build a bait tube.  (when I get a "round tuit".)

The birds are going nuts.   I tried chasing the birds yesterday thinking there might be some bonita or even mackerel underneath but nothing hit the small jig or feather I threw and trolled.

But man -- it's fun ... so much fun.  I really love this boat and being able to throw it on my car and go out.

Thanks for sharing your report from down south. I'll have to hit you up one of these days; I've been meaning to bring my yak with me on one of my regular business trip down to So Cal.

I'm happy to see that the madness has taken over you lol!!
