Cho's is the largest documented unassisted kayak catch recorded, surpassing Howard McKim's 182-pound Alaska halibut and Dave Lamoureux's 156-pound Cape Cod bluefin. All kayak records are unofficial; the IGFA, the world's foremost fishing record keeper, only concerns itself with line class regardless the platform.

so salmon sharks dont count?

Yes, Ben is correct.  The Salmon Sharks were caught from a mothership trip.

^Definitely mothershipped, but it's all good. Even this new one comes into question on the 'unassisted' side, as it seems it took two of them to paddle it back to the beach.

It doesn't matter. None of this is "official" but it sure is cool. What does it matter anyway as long as you're having fun?

Back to the salmon sharks, Howard McKim tells me they could have taken a salmon shark solo without landing help from a powerboat. It would have been technical, but if he says it's doable, I believe him.

Yes, in fact, Howard released one of our sharks unassisted.  But, we did not paddle out from the beach so it's in the 'assisted' category.

I still say Howie has the record for "completely unassisted."

Nice catch though, can you eat those things?

^Marlin? Nah, too bony.  :smt002

Everything tastes good in a taco, but of course most sportsmen advocate releasing billfish. Taking this one is completely understandable.

All of these catches impress me. What's the next boundary to fall?

Me too, incredible! Next boundary is probably already on the mind of Polepole, maybe Howard, too.
