what did I "catch"

while trying to catch a wsb in Monterey Bay, I ran one line down by the bottom.   After a drift,  I pulled up the line and the squid was gone and replaced with these.   Any idea what they are?  (Hoping I can post a pic right)

Those look like Squid eggs.

Yep.... or you tore off a whales privates

that was my guess (squid something) but decided to continue using them for bait - not sure about taking them off the hook

  If that were the case, I doubt we would be seeing pictures of it as the perpetrator would have had an angry, in-pain whale on top of him!!
