So  there are salmon sharks around. Are these legal to keep in Calif.  Couldn't find anything  on google or the  DFG site.

And if they are having infection problems , should they be eaten?

Or should they just be thrown back in the interest of conservation?

The limit in Alaska is two sharks a year per person.

Seriously, the first thing on my mind when I first took a glance of the shark was WTF!!! I guess I've been a little antsy after all these landlord sightings as well as the close call with Andy.

They're so cute when they are small.....

I hear they aren't any good for the table though. Anyone ever eat any salmon shark?

I just had some of JimI's SoCal thresher shark last night. DEEE-lish!

Yes, I ate a lot of it from our salmon shark adventure.  And fed a bunch of guys up at BAM that year.  Good stuff.  Very similar to thresher, although a bit meatier.

Salmon shark are not uncommon down here.  They migrate down in the spring to pup offshore before turning north and heading back up to Alaska to feed on salmon.  You just never see them because they are offshore.  And when you do see them, it's the sick pups beaching themselves.

Its a good thing that they only get about 10 foot.  Definetly more catchable than a white (20 foot).
