My dad and I went camping in Fort Bragg the 29th and 30, in time for the ab season closer.

Since my dad doesn't dive, I met up with Dave W at Caspar. Despite terrible conditions due to the high winds, I still really wanted to try to get my first ab.
The viz was actually pretty good for the large swells. After missing a couple abs because I spooked them before I could slip my iron underneathe. But after a few trips to the bottom, I popped one off. It was about 8 inches and decent sized. I was probably down 50-60 seconds finding it, and prying it off.
After a couple more trips to the bottom, I was finished, mainly because the clip on my fin had broken off, and it kept loosening. I also forgot to put one of my 2 pound weights on my belt, which meant that I didn't have enough lead to reach the bottom easily. I had to use my arms to get to the bottom.
Although it was a bit of a representation of Murphy's Law thatt day, I still had a lot of fun, and I can't wati til next time.
Thanks again to Dave W for all the help!

(the perch in the picture I caught at Mackerricher State park, didn't shoot em)

Rick, to get any abs on a day like that is pretty respectable, and on your first dive........remarkable.

Free-divers watch out......this kid is going to be world class.   He's got the bug good.

Anytime your around, let me know.  Shoot, you're gonna be a menace out there in a couple of years!
