School season is getting hot so I've been getting ahead on my work so I could get out and enjoy some saltwater therapy!!!
Got a late start pulling out of  Arcata at just after 6am made it to the cove by 745 ready for some time on the water! Just got my new fish finder wired up and was stoked to use it. Hit the water just after 8 and started rolling over sandy ground with chovies. The butts were on it!! Got to pull up 4 shorts before my first 22', which got thrown on the clip.
Decided to change it up and move out side for some trolling, started trolling from the bell and moving to the outside. Half way to the whistle my bait gets picked up and the rod goes full bendo, moving forward trying to keep the line behind me. The rod was shaking and the fish was fighting up on top as I started reeling in, and then the leader broke. bam... right at the hook. and as I am sure anyone would agree its a pretty gut wrenching feeling. but no sense tarnishing a perfectly good fishing day, I slapped on another leader and was back on the troll.
The wind picked up and I moved back inside to pick up a 26" and 23" ling and limits of blacks all on the troll in the mid water column, pretty awesome!
Back on the inside with limits of lings and blacks, it was time to try that sandy bottom again. The rod goes bendo as I'm drifting having a smoke, didn't take line just stopped the yak. Got the rod and pulled to get it free and the weight lifts and I know I'm on a real one. Fish came right up and got it in the net before it lost it's shit. A nice 35" Cali Hali, and a personal best for me.
Landed on shore put the yak in the truck and cracked a cold one in honor of such a beautiful day!

If anyone has any recommendations on tying two hook leaders
(sliding/or not) any tips would be greatly appreciated!

absolute hog!  Congrats on the PB Brine!

I can't wait to get back up to the cove and try my hand inside for some butts.

Tie a 2/0 octo hook onto leader material with a fixed snell leaving 8" tag end. I tie a size 4 treble on about 6" under the octo hook with an improved clinch knot. If you're trolling, try snelling another octo hook 12" above the first for a hootchie and grub.
