Some flat water and light winds are finally forecasted to show up below the Cape:

.WED...S WIND 5 KT...BECOMING SW IN THE AFTERNOON. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT OR LESS. MIXED SWELL...NW 3 TO 5 FT AT 8 SECONDS AND SW 3 FT AT 14 SECONDS. PATCHY FOG.
.WED NIGHT...S WIND 5 KT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT OR LESS. MIXED SWELL...NW 5 FT AND SW 3 FT. PATCHY FOG.
.THU...W WIND 5 KT...BECOMING NW. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT OR LESS. MIXED SWELL...NW 4 FT AND S 3 FT. PATCHY FOG.
.FRI...NW WIND 5 TO 10 KT. WIND WAVES 2 FT OR LESS. MIXED SWELL...NW 5 FT AND S 3 FT. PATCHY FOG.

I hope to get OTW tomorrow evening, Thursday, Friday, all of the above, or some combination of those times.  If the signs are there (birds, bait, type of water...etc.) I'll salmon troll, but some rockfish and lingcod should be in order too.

Anyone who's up for it should get in touch.   :smt001

Just got home this afternoon - hope to do a little fabricating on the new extreme (mount my downrigger) tomorrow if possible.  I'll most likely be ready when you come down thurs or fri.  Haven't heard anything yet as far as the bite.  Hope the salmon are showing up ASAP.  See ya soon - - - -

Thanks, Guys!  And welcome back, Dan.  Looks like I'm heading out toward the Cape Thursday, so maybe I'll see you Friday or the weekend, Dan.  Still pumping near 10' at the Cape right now, so it'll be interesting to see if it's really down by tomorrow evening like the forecast currently shows.  Could be 6 or more of us at the Cape Thursday - should be good.   :smt007

Think I'm in the clear to fish at least Thursday am.  If the window opens, I'm paddling through it.

People often ask about the forecast and what it takes to get OTW out at Cape Mendocino (one of the windiest places anywhere).  This is what it takes to have a good chance to fish out there:

.THU...VARIABLE WIND 5 KT. WIND WAVES 1 FOOT. MIXED SWELL...NW 3 TO 4 FT AT 9 SECONDS AND S 3 FT AT 14 SECONDS. PATCHY FOG.

Good luck tomorrow to whoever's going out.   :smt007

My job sucks lately.  I'm getting a vibe like it would be extremely unwise of me to skip out on work tomorrow AND Friday.  Friday I'm headed to Trinity lake for the weekend so I have to bail on the Cape.  DamnDamnDoubleDamn.  I've been waiting all summer for conditions like this   :smt013    My only consolation is that, while these days are rare, we'll get a few more chances this year.

With any luck, though, I'll get on the AOTY board with a nice smallie from Trinity.  Good luck catching all those 40 inch lings I just know you'll catch (goddamnitsomuch).

Yowza!  I'm glad you're making the sound decision regarding work - not worth it to screw that up.  You'll have a great trip to Trinity due to your good judgement about this.

That said, we are going to slay them tomorrow!!!   :smt003

I'd hoped for a group of a half dozen of us, but it now looks like we'll make 5 anyway.  The forecast is hanging in there, and tackle, bait and gear have been prepared.  I hope for some decent sleep.   :smt004
