South Fork of the Eel - 6/26/10

Took the family for a great drift along the South Fork last Saturday.  The river is so sweet this summer after all the late rain.  We had mid 80's, perfect green water in the holes, and just enough drift to kill the afternoon winds up the canyon.  Fished along the way hoping for a little steelhead or at least a squawfish, but all we saw were lots of squawfish following the lure.  Put in at Leatherwood Bar just north of Miranda and took out at Williams Grove just north of Myers Flat - about 5 miles.  Rode the mountain bike back up the Avenue of the Giants to pickup my truck.  Good Times on a beautiful river lately.

Lovely family outing! What more can one ask than to enjoy nature with your loved ones- and yakfish?
I will be doing the same next week at Collins Lake with my family- except my wife lasted 5 minutes a few weeks ago at Quarry Lakes (her first time).  thx for the report.

5 miles - there are other, longer options.  I've done a few marathon 30 mile paddles down the main fork, but the south fork is the most beautiful with all the old growth redwoods along the river.

So 5miles=3-4hrs? I've fished that area but never floated it.  Looks real peaceful.

Family Time = Good Wet Times
