I got an invite to join Allen for a trip on the SF Bay aboard the very professional charter, The "New Huck Finn". Skippered by Jay Yokomizo, Deckhand Dave and three amazing Labrador Retrievers.
I was instructed to meet up at the dock at 0530hrs. ,by Allen, at the Emeryville harbor. Along with the crew Allen and Myself their were approx 15 others ready to do a day of fishing for Halibut and stripers.
After departing and introductions by Allen. We headed north to our first drop off point. It was fairly unproductive with only one striper aboard until we headed south of the Bay Bridge a couple of hours past Noon.
At this point we started to really get into them with a personal landing of one Hali for me and two stripers for Allen. I'll let Allen share about his first fish landing and the antics that went on with his struggles to land it. Lets just say their were a few comments about changing the color of the New Huck Finn to yellow and Allen having to wear a helmet. :smt044. It may have had to do with a Senior Moment and that's all I have to say about that........
The dogs were incredible to watch. When ever a fish call of, "fish on" they would rush to that call along with Jay and Dave to supervise the landing of the fish. They would (the Dogs) even lose their interest if it was a shark. They were just fun to watch the whole day rushing about to the alert of Fish On! I will say that Jay and Dave usually beat the dogs to help land the fish. Really attentive to their clients and each of us had a aerated bucket with live Anchovies right in front of us. Not only is the boat well equipped but very well staffed. Jay was so concerned about putting us on fish that we did not dock until 1900hrs.
I suspect that I'll be listening in on Allen and Mike's radio show this Thursday to hear if Jay will be changing the color of his Charter boat.
I would have posted pictures but their seems to be a problem with my gallery in that every time I try to upload pictures it comes up with a error.
Thanks for the invite my friend as always weather on Kayaks or a dry Butte charter truly a blast. "Gotta Love this Sport"

Children can be so cruel.

Ok, I popped the hook off my 1st striper when the deckhand told me to lift my rod "straight up."

2d fish , two nets one on each side of the fish"Lift it up, lift it up, straight into the air!!"  I'm not saying I panicked, but I did suffer a slight freespool incident that was unfortunate and may have damaged my status as a professional.

Next and last fish was going well at the net till the deckhand DAve yeled into my ear "FREESPOOL!!!!"

Again I admit to a very slight hesitation as I processed this new and somewhat bewildering command, till turned a saw his sunburned grin next to me.

Brutal, just brutal, and one of the funest days I've had so far this year.

Great to hang with Frank for 12 hours in a row.  1st time ever we' have fished together with dry butts.

Allen
