My Striper buddy, Keri, just text me with two beautiful stripers that he just caught at Del Valle this PM.
A couple of years ago Mooch and I just killed them there when they were running. We actually named a cove there in memory of that day. Valentine Cove! Approximately the same area where Keri caught his stripers today. All we used is Popsicles and free lining  or live bait.
I know everyone complains about not being able to catch stripers at this lake but their back. FYI frankfishing

The Del Valle stripers are approximately just legal or better. Pretty much cookie cutters unless you can catch them in deep water. Then they get huge.

It seams that this year more than ever that there have been some nice size stripers coming out of DV.  Over the last 2-3 months, I've read about close to a dozen fish that weigh 10 lbs. or more with a couple in the 20 lb. class.  They exist but are elusive.  They don't get that big on accident.

Thanks for the tip Frank.

Bummer that you can't use live bait there anymore.

It is an East Bay Parks rule to not allow live minnows and they are enforcing it. Got this 27" linesider trolling a Kastmaster on a downrigger in the narrows earlier this year. I have caught all of my DV stripers on artificials mostly Kastmasters, swimbaits, jerkshads and rapalas. In the narrows and at the dam they are often deep. During the fall turnover and the spring spawn, they come up to the surface and can be found in the south end.
