Wow, so many more replies!! Again, thank you all for your kind welcome and advices :D

It's great to see other PFIC members as members of NCKA as well. I'm sorry I haven't responded back sooner, as I was doing some fishing yesterday as well as this morning before I had to go into work. I caught 2 cabbies this week (23" 7 lbs 8 oz & 25" 8 lbs 9 oz) from the rocks. I hope to post some reports here soon, but this time on a kayak rather than on the shore lol!!

I will take all of your advices in searching older threads for inputs, post a Wanted: paddle to see if there are other colleagues who may have a paddle to sell, and more than likely go with the Trevala rod.

All of you are great!! Thanks again :D

Just to add to the list - for jigging I use an abu 6600bcx on an abu conlon 6'6" medium heavy - 30lb braid
for spinning i just changed to an abu 177 on a 6'9 tiger lite medium also with 30 lb braid - really like the tiger lite for the price.
I tend to keep it cheap for salt setups and do just fine.  I have also used the shimano sonora 4000 for a spinning reel - for a $50 reel its been great

The Ugly Stiks are great rods, but something makes me cringe a little when I think of putting a $200 reel on a $50 rod. I could be wrong, but I would guess if you had the cash for a nice reel like the Revo, you might like a nicer rod to pair it with. I think GB2's Lamiglas suggestion is a good one, also take a look at some of the beefier St. Croix rods. For me, I have the Revo paired to a Shimano Butterfly Rod in ML.

I'm not knocking Ugly Stiks, I think they are a great rod for the money. But if I were going to put a reel on an Ugly Stik it would be something equally bomber, but not exactly high $, like a Jigmaster or a Penn 320 GTi

Jim, thanks for those kind compliments regarding the huge cabbies :D Now that I have both a paddle and the shimano trevala, I'm ready to go out on my yak!! It was fun hauling the 25" cabbies from shore, but I can't wait to pull some out from a kayak!!

Thank you all for helping me decide on my rod, and I look forward to sharing reports and pics with you all.

My go to setup has been a st croix mojo bass rod paired with an okuma serrano reel (although I am probably switching it back to a curado 200e).  It is a lighter weight setup than most here use but it is a lot of fun pulling up lings, cabs and various rockfish on that rig.  I have some heavier setups that I used to use down south, but I find that I rarely use them any more.
