native peoples yak

I saw a PBS program a year or so ago about the native peoples here in the bay area and they showed a boat very similar to a kayak with a bottom, storage etc.

In short they wove a bottom and seats into the woven reed boat, essentially, the water just runs through the boat..any over the top, just runs through the reeds into the water.

the whole thing weighed about 20 lbs. could carry a lot of weight, and was seemingly indestructable.

did anyone see that program?

I would love to weave a native kayak out of reeds and rope, and take that out at capitola for some fishing.

The Ohlone used them.  They were the natives around the Bay Area, (many different tribes).
