Loaded my livewell (20 or so BIG sardines) in between the surfer reef and New Brighton.  Fished two rods each with single live bait hooks. One was fly-lined and the other was bounce ball setup.  Zig-zaged (20' down to 10') the area from the NB bathrooms back to the kelp in Cap for NO TAKERS.  Worked over the kelp for a while and managed only one UNDER-Ling.  Nice to feel the tug.  Only a little swell, fog moved in and out multiple times.  Very sun burnt forearms...  Fished with NCKA member Erik on a Hobie for a bit.

Underling shot attached.  --James

ok. ok...  The title only includes "boring" so nobody'd have their hopes up to see a bunch of flatties caught.

My previous report post used "SKUNK" in the title.  I didn't want to use it again and make it obvious that I'm in a fishing slump.

Yep. Can't get 'em if you're not on the water!

All reports are good info, full of flatties or not. Thanks Wasteoid!

I think in many ways skunk reports are more important than "my boat sank cuz of the haul" reports.  Gives us mortals hope to realize we are not the only ones not catching!

I think the problem is Santa Cruz's "fish" has already been caught.

Friday June 4 out in front of Black' s Point and harbor for four hours with live sardines and  not even a nibble. Zero for three  times out ,so far this year.
The exercise was the best. There ain't no gym with a view like that.

Same for us (on Friday) only without the boring part :smt003. I had business in the area so the kayak came along. Made pretty easy bait (nice size sardines) and drifted it from the west down to NB for a blank myself. The seals, otters and dolphins put on a great show. Pelicans were crashing the surf at NB so we ended up there but the surf was full of seaweed and such so trolling plugs was not an option. Bait was thick there as well.
At one point in the morning I had the classic tap-tap...fed it a bit of line...waited for it and the rod loaded up and it was ON! The next thing I knew 100 yds of line was gone..my kayak got up to nine mph on the gps. Then another hundred yards of line so I dropped my legs in the water to slow the "fish" down thinking at first a ghost but after the more line was peeling off I was thinking thresher. Finally came to my senses and looked about three hundred yards out to see a fur bag going air born. We parted ways ...with him acquiring some new bling ....
Great getting out on a new stretch of water with a good buddy...

Yeah the fish didn't wanna play but it was nice to get out and listed to all the high school kids getting drunk on the beach. Have some pics and video that I will post in the AM on Sunday.

Great to hang with ya Allen!
