My Buddy Ron and I met at LM first at 8am but conditions were pretty hairy. We could have launched from the left side but the water looked pretty choppy out there, white caps started whipping so we decided to go down south and launched at Pillar point harbor at the north end of the harbor. Conditions looked good at 8:45 but of course swells started coming up as soon as we got out of the harbor.
Set my hoops about a quarter mile from the fog horn due south east. I had 2 hoops and 1 Promar trap. Tried fishing while waiting for the dungies to come in. Nothing much happened.
My hoops did better than my trap. Got only 2 legal dungies and about 5 big rock crabs. My friend Ron go about the same with his hoops.
At some point I saw this big fishing boat stop just before the fog horn he seemed to have some engine problem. Sure enough when I saw his drifting towards where I had put my hoops in, one of the guys on board starting gesturing that their engine had died. They threw a couple of anchors down but the drift was pretty strong. I was amazed to see how long it took the harbor rescue boat to come an tow the boat.
I guess they felt confident it would take a while before they'd end up on the beach. We stayed until about 1:30pm when the wind started kicking up right against us. Paddling back was a real work-out and in fact it was even harder once in the harbor. White caps were kicking up and we were glad to be back on the beach. Glad we got a couple of Dungies, in fact I cooked also the rock crabs for friends and family and they tasted great! Another wonderful day on the water in Norcal! :smt003

Hi, Alain, Glad you had a good day. How deep did you set traps (sand areas or rock areas) ? What is the dungies limit (10) ?

I assumed that being 1/4 to 1/2 mile out from the harbor, I was hitting sandy bottom. I know I was at about 45 feet (I have a hand-held depth finder). Limit on Dungies is 10 per person per day size limit 5"3/4.
