D the smallies are just coming off the beds this rain has put them down a little but a drop shot rig with a Roboworm is tough to beat, small jigs work well in black, yellow and craw, small crankbaits and rapalas, roostertails are a good bet also. There are shad in the river also and are a blast for those you would want some really small jigs or shad darts in bright colors. Fish them close to the bottom in pools when the sun is out and tailouts when it;s getting dark or overcast don't horse them their lips are paper thin.
I would say cats but the Russian is no bait barbless hooks please release any small trout/salmon you catch they are on their way to the big blue.
If you need some spots, or personnel instruction I live only a few miles upstream PM me.

Here is a picture of a smallies right off my beach thinkI took it tuesday

My wife and I took a canoe down the russian river from around healdsburg.  There were a lot of what where either large carp or sqawfish sitting at the bottom of some pools - had some luck with bass on a popper.  Anyone know would those have been carp?
