Ditched my morning responsibilities, which these days only consists of keeping my beer provider happy, to go fishing... (my lady-friend keeps me in beer money while I take the summer off).

Started well East and deeper than the Mile Buoy thinking maybe the swell had moved the Halibut out.  Setup wind drifts in 60+', 50 and 45 feet of water.  No takers.  The breeze from 6 to 8am was from Capitola toward Santa Cruz.  From 8 to Noon there was almost no breeze at all.  Moved in and fished the kelp beds and where I'd seen birds attacking bait the last few days near Pleasure Point for NO takers.  I swear it wasn't me.  The bite was just off.  I plan to blame the weather...

Glad you got out there to give it a try...some days are just like that!!

A skunk out of Santa Cruz?!  Whodathought?!?!   Someone alert Mooch.  :smt044

Thx for posting up.  Nothing like ditching responsibilities and enjoying a nice day on the water, even if the only thing you bagged was a tan and a workout

Someone here once said "there's no fish in Santa Cruz"  :smt003  Thanks for the report and picture James.

Ya gave it a shot, thats what counts!  I'll be giving it a shot many times this year I think, and try and find where the fish are hiding in SC!  :smt044

I was out in front of Santa Cruz at the same time. I got one 18" underling at the mile marker and another in front of the light house at 40', otherwise nothing.
There was bait inside  the Black's Point buoy and not as much outside. Saw a lot of bait directly in front of the lighthouse at 40'.
The bite was off. I hate that-greasy calm, kinda perfect, and the fish got lockjaw.
Also, I could  have slept late, as the wind report was correct for a change and the afternoon was  moderate.

getting the time to fish, lined up with hungry fish willing to eat what you show them dosen't happen all the time......just getting out without the afternoon winds kickin in would be a hoot in itself.
Thanks for confirming prior reports from SC= no fish there :smt003
