Hi,

I just recently purchased a used OK 15 Prowler and am looking to getting into the sport of kayak fishing. I am hoping that many of you will be gracious to help me get me started.

I have started to purchase certain necessities such as wetsuit, kayak rack, wheelez. I now need to purchase a paddle, new or used.

I am looking to spend anywhere from $200-$250. Any advice on which paddle is strongly recommended around this price range, where or whom I would get the best deal? Plus if anyone on this site is looking to sell a paddle, please pm me.

I am looking to use this paddle/kayak to do fishing primarily in my local area, Monterey Bay.

Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all.

- Daniel

I bought a new Werner Skagit Paddle 230CM with the Carbon shaft 2 weeks ago at REI for $130. I've used it the last 2 Saturday's at StillWater South and love it.. My other choices were Aquabound and Adventure Technology models which I passed up on.  The Skagit clean construction and simple design impressed me the most.  My first choice was the Werner Camano that's $265 but I figured I can use the money on other things.  REI Mountain View has lots of paddles.  Goodluck and enjoy your paddle shopping!

By the way, I also bought those NRS splash pants through mountainsports, for the money they can't be beat. Keeps you a little dryer and keeps the blood and fish poop off your wetsuit, FYI

Thank you both FA & AKA for your opinions and advices!! I didn't expect to receive replies so soon, and I greatly appreciate it  :smt001

I realized that paddles can get pricey, especially when I have to purchase other items for kayak fishing. However, I want one that will last me for a long time, that I won't need to "upgrade", and one that will allow me to paddle with minimal fatigue.

Please keep the suggestions coming, as well as any deals that I should look out for. Thank you all again, and I look forward to building my relationship via posts/reports/get-togethers with you all!!
