Body found in area where abalone diver disappeared

(05-09) 16:14 PDT FORT ROSS, Calif. (AP) --
Authorities have recovered a body from the waters of the Sonoma County
coast in the same area where an abalone diver disappeared last month.
A state parks ranger says another abalone diver found the body under a
rocky ledge near Fort Ross around 7 a.m. Sunday.
The wetsuit and gear on the body were similar to the equipment a
43-year-old Santa Cruz man was wearing when he disappeared while abalone
diving April 29.
Sonoma County officials expect to identify the body Monday.

The death toll is high this year. Season has just begun too. When hunting people tend to disperse and go different directions. Hard to keep track that way. Condolences to his family.

I believe the original article said he was a diver but it also said he didn't have fins. Rock picking abalone without fins is very dangerous because if you are knocked over by a wave you are at the mercy of the surf in the impact zone.I'm sorry for the family.

He was found with a 35 lb. weight belt, no fins. I think he was a rockpicker.
