Any ideas on how to mount a drift anchor on an older mirage kayak?

I'm trying to figure out how to put a drift anchor on my wife's hobie sport for some drifting for shad.  problem is that the sport has the old style flip up rudder, so I'm not sure how i could clear the top of the rudder for a drift anchor bracket. 

I was thinking that maybe I should just remove the rudder for the days that I'm in the river since I would probably not use the drive anyways (due to having to remove it for riffles). 

Would that make sense or does anyone have other ideas?  anyone want to make me one for a case of beer?
