Mrs. Finaegelin demanded fish flesh for dinner, so I tried my local reservoir twice again for the stocked salmonids soaking there. Actually fished the last two Saturdays, 4/17 and 4/24, with increasing success. Beautiful weather, easy launching, free parking (with our annual pass!) and heavy stocking made both days rewarding.

Caught 2 last week (plus a little bass), and lost 2 at the boat. Powerbait while tied up on the reeds got the keepers. One was a "lightning" fish, light colored with nice orange flesh, about 2 lbs, 17+ inches (with that funky tail).

This week I got my first limit in several years, pulling in 2 on the early troll with my favorite lures. Later found out where all the fish were hovering, with a tip from a regular. Tied up to the reeds again and loaded up the goods with powerbait again. Biggest was another lightning, 16+ inches.

"Fish for dinner tonight," says Mrs. Finaegelin.  :smt001

Thanks, guys. It was definitely fun.

Yes, I had a little fun making my custom "hawg plank" out of good ole California Redwood. Unfortunately I learned the hard way that the "trough" shape helps keep the fish from slipping off! Maybe I'll modify it to make it more trough-like. Stripes are 3M pin-striping tape and numerals are dymo labels. All covered with clear Varathane, after an initial coat of Watco Oil to bring out the nice red color.

What's with the pea green trout?  I've never seen that before.
