Support Strokes 2011

Greetings Anglers – The 10th Support Strokes paddle is this Saturday at Jack London Square. Details can be found at www.calkayak.com/events.cfm#5200 and www.calkayak.com/supportstrokes/?go=home.

Support Strokes emerged as a BASK (Bay Area Sea Kayakers)/CCK response years ago to a fellow member in dire need. The event now honors all those passed, those fighting cancer and all cancer survivors. More directly it raises needed funds for women fighting the disease through two local organizations and supports two national organizations which fight the environmental causes of cancer and raise awareness through grassroots education and advocacy. To date Support Strokes has raised over $234,000 for these groups.
 
Those showing up and participating receive a chance to win many great prizes donated by paddle sports suppliers and local businesses. Additionally, you may purchase Support Strokes Big Raffle tickets for $5 for a chance to win a Current Designs Vision 135 kayak, a Hobie Mirage Sport pedal kayak, and a Starboard Atlas stand-up paddle board. Tickets may be purchased at CCK retail locations in Rancho Cordova and Oakland, or over the phone with a credit card. You need not be present to win one of these great prizes, drawing expected to be held in October.

Register, paddle, show your support and make new friends. Lunch is included courtesy Scott’s, as is a cool 2011 Support Strokes T-shirt. There are many new paddlers this year signed up. It is a very much fun and uplifting day. Hope to see you there.
