WTG on your first halibut on the yak Allan. Aren't they a blast once you get'em in the net and they go ballistic on you? I'm sure you'll get plenty more
halibut in the near future.

NICE!!! I'm still jealous.
Can't get any work done b/c I'm still thinking halibut...
I'm almost tempted to ditch Saturday's ab dive and go after halis.  Thx for the report- it's an encouraging sign.

Allan, Congratulations on the Para-dice Hali.....Nice fat fish!  It was great hanging with the gang on the water and at the launch.

Some how I knew the rest of my day was doomed after releasing my barely legal fish. With all the talk about "fish handling" and C&R I just focused on sliding the little hali on the hog trough (wet'd it first) and then a quick release. Forgot all about the camera and photo. No photo...it never happened. :smt003

Sonny, thanx for taking that photo of me in front of my little beach house. Blew out the cobwebs off the gear. Apparently 6v brick batteries and rechargeable AA's don't like being left without a charge for 4 months, or maybe i need to check continuity in the lines. I used 1 smelt all day. It was still swimmin when i released it.
Makin bait was a trip. After 2 1/2hrs of throwing while the tide was pushin we had 1 small Bullhead, 2 small Mudsuckers, one decent Toppie and 2 pinners, all except one from my sloppy throws. I have been complaining to Dave the whole time, talking about gettin Shiners from Mike's in the morning, and missing the slack tide. Then the tide finally turns at around 2am. We wait a few minutes while the mandatory baby diapers, used condoms, crack baggies and all manner of Oakland street trash flush past us. Dave throws and BINGO. 30 toppies of good bait size with 4 excellent large size in the mix. More than enough, and I only used 1.

Now thats doing the damn thang, congrats on your first Halibut on your yak, It sounds like you guys are drifting live minnows exclusively? I have yet to catch a hali from my yak and look to do so ASP. My spot that we fish at has so much tidal movement, rocks, grass and snags, that it has proven futile to drift or troll. The only way to get to this spot is to paddle in, (access road is private property) We then beach the yaks and plug for Halibut ,striper, and the occasional salmon from shore. Look to see me over at paradise soon.

Not really!  :smt003  The best live baits are Shiners and Anchovies.  We just can't turn down Dave's offer of his left over Jumbo Minnows from his Clear Lake trip.  Thanks again for these Minnows Dave.
