I would like to try my luck at ab diving along with Kayak fishing. Trying to gear up for next year. What kind of gear do I need to dive for abs? also what do you like and where do you shop.
Thanks Jack

Seems kind of obvious, but I thought I would throw in that a mask and snorkel come in handy too.  I can't remember if Jelly listed ab guage and fishing license and punch card, but these are also required.  Nice work on the list Jelly.  Let's get out and get some before the season closes.

Don't forget to carry a pen on board. If diving from a yak your punch card has to be filled out before you hit the shore. Your kayak is considered a vessel. Stooooopid I know, but it is the law.
I also have my goodie bag attached to a short rope with a clip so it can hung over the side about a foot below my kayak. I just swim up and slam dunk the ab in the bag. You don't even have to close the bag unless it is a REALLY rough day.
When done I put my ab iron in the bag along with the gauge and just lift it all into the tank well and am good to go.

Good point Tote.  Scwafish and myself were at casper last year and we stopped just shy of landing on the beach to fill out the cards at his request.  Sure enough, we were immediately swooped down on and  checked at the beach by the DFG on the beach.  I will always fill it out before landing.

Hopefully next year the cards will be perforated again...

Another good item is a floatline.  Read the article or do a search to learn how to build one (or buy one).  They're very helpful on days when it's murky and difficult to locate an abalone.  Didn't need it last weekend though.  It was sure nice to have ~20' visibility.
