Rhyak,

There are a a couple of styles of circle hooks. Personally I like the light wire style gammi's or owners in 4/0-6/0 for mooching. Remember to make it barbless... they may pull out a Q-tip to check them. On lures I believe they are 4/0 or bigger siwash(" J ") hooks. Most of my experience is from a PB and my favorites were the ... Purple Haze Hootchi, Anchovy Apex, the croc in green or orange stripe, and an anchovy on a cable baiter.
This will be my first year salmon fishing from a kayak so here's my question...?
Is it easier to  troll or trooch from a kayak with a rudder..??

I hope we all catch some "shiny ones"

Gue

On the rudder question-- my opinion-- yes it is easier with a rudder. Typically, you've got swell and wind, and the drag of a big ball, flasher, and lure/bait cocking you to one side- so either you can paddle harder on that one side, or paddle straight and let the rudder handle the rest. When the wind is up a bit you also get a rest going downhill.

I know lots of guys here dont use rudders, and catch PLENTY of salmon...BLue where are you?...but i've been a rudder lover since shortly after i learned to paddle straight without one.
