Weather was perfect yesterday so off I went to Washington to see Mt. St. Helen's
First stop was the only open visitors center on the way in.  There ai got my hat pin, (No patch's  :smt009) and a sticker.  Also got to watch a 16 min video on the events that lead up to the May 18th 1980 eruption.  I thought it was a powerful video.
The center had display cases, with artifacts from around the area during that time, and in one case there were melted electronics, ( an old scanner, walki-talki etc) these items, looked like they were put in a blast furnace!  The cases were simply melted out of shape.  Pryocrastic flows I guess will do that.
Next stop was hoffstadt Bluff visitors center. (Closed until May 16) Here I got the shots of the elk in the valley floor (At least 500yds away or more)

Next stop and the last one for the day was at an overlook about a mile away from the Johnson's observatory (also closed until May 16th) Here I got the shots of Mt. Adams, the crater views (from the side) the big valley "Blast zone" close ups of the crater

I'll be going back, as some of my shots ended up being washed out, but then, all the visitor centers will be open then!

I was stationed up in Port Angeles when it blew.  Unfortunatelly I was on patrol up in the Bering Sea, but my wife told me that she thought that the Coast Guard base on Ediz Hook was doing a gun salute.  It was that loud.  She made a road trip down here to visit relatives a little while later and picked up some of the ash along-side HWY 5.

:smt012  No kayak yet, no fishing license yet, so no fishing yet. I'll be a"Tourist" in this state until I return to CA. (in aprox 15 months?) :smt009 I do want to do some fishing, but haven't hooked up with any locals from NWKA yet.  Even then It'd be bank or maybe surf fishing then, and the only pole I have with me is a "Cotcto" spinning combo with 6lb test (old now) and no tackle.  See, although employeed, I'm still trying to recover from 9 mo's of unemployement.  I don't have a whole lota spending cash at the moment.
Reports will come I just can't say when right now.

I hear ya Troy, I'll be going through that myself. Anyway, glad your enjoying your temporary home. AND tell those NWKA'ers to hook you with what you need :smt002 That's what NCKA would have done :smt002
