Sat. trip with a couple of guys from work.  We launched out of Lundborg Landing...$8 launch and parking fee.  Plugged for bass in the tulles and trolled for stripers in the deeper channels.  Great day to be out...warm weather but no love from our finned friends.  Had a late lunch in the marina restaurant...it was good and they even had a live band that day.

Lots of boat traffic from the bass fishermen with their big motors.  However they stayed clear of us and even slowed down in the narrower channels.  The locals said that live bait has been the ticket lately.

Gary/SandMan

Same results on Sunday.  Took the kayak out for a paddle with a friend.

Launched at Sugar Barge ($10), fished the morning incoming with the fly rod - - - No love, not even a grab - - - it appeared slow for many others as well.  I did not try live bait though.

Started at the Seawall Cut into Franks, then some Islands Points in and around Sandmound Slough.  Mid morning we paddled up to Holand Slough and then back across the tract back to Sugar Barge. Best I can say is it was a good workout.

Glad the high horsepower crew showed you manors - they were a bit more throttle happy in the open areas we were fishing later in the morning - a differnt story on that one.

Nice day to be on the water in the Kayak regardless of all the above - let me know the next time you go out.

Jim

Hi Jim,

The last time I saw you was at Larkspur Landing and you were trying to leave but got bit by yet another striper.  We were talking about getting up into the Delta but didn\\\'t know the area.  One of the guys I was with is a card carrying BASK paddler and wanted to try fishing for the first time.  He\\\'s been to Lundborg Landing many times in the past and recommended it.  BTW it\\\'s the next driveway down Gateway Blvd. from the Sugar Barge.

A friend of a friend that lives on Bethel Island has been using perch for live bait.  According to him it outfishes bullheads and mud suckers.  Not sure where he gets the perch from but I suspect he catches his own before heading out

Another local claims that there\\\'s a spot on the far east side of Frank\\\'s Tract where only kayaks can go.  Its near the original break in the levee and stripers shoot the channels getting from one place to another.  We\\\'ll have to keep our eyes on the reports to follow the action so we can be at the right place at the right time.

Hey Gary

Thought that may be you, based on your questions about Franks the last time we met in the Lower Bay.

Ya, nobody sells perch so he must catch his own.  I was amazed at the Crappie in and around the docks.  I saw an Asian fellow with his wife, catching them on every cast.

Personally I like to flyfish in the Delta, at least until the water gets too cold or too muddy - then bait.

That spot your friend refers to is probably "little" franks, and yes it is hard to get into without the proper tide. The Kayak is definitely a plus on getting in.

Anyhow, gotta get to work - let me know the next time you head out.

Jim

I love that part of the delta, but last time I went there I was stunned by the amount of boat traffic, especially big boats.  I was bummed...when I was a little guy it was amazing if you saw more than a few boats in a day.

I'm with ya' Sean.  I don't recall the good old days having only fished it for 7 or 8 years now - I have seen a huge increase in boat traffic even during that time...

Having fished it long ago as you did, I'll bet that provided some lasting memories.

BTW - My gear arrived on Monday - Many Thanks.   :smt001
