My driver's license expires next Wednesday and the DMV requires that I renew in person. I called for an appointment and the next opening is in April, after my expiration.
Can I go in person without an appointment? I'm doing this in SF/Daly City. Anyone have experience here?
Thanks,
Andrew

Its called take a number, go in early and be prepared to wait.  don't go at the end of the month it is a zoo.  At least that has been my San Mateo Experiences. FYI be there when the door opens as staffing is less now a days due to cut backs.

I would suppose you don't have a AAA membership? Sometimes they do dmv services there but not sure if they would do your license renewal if you have to show up in person.

I think I'd find a small DMV office such as the one in Colusa or Redway.  You should be in and out in less then 2 hours.

I had the same problem. I showed up one hour before they opened and stood outside the door. I was the 15th person in line and was in and out in about 10 minutes. By the time I walked in when they opened there were 80+ people that I counted in line behind me.  :smt002

Sounds like you're set, but for anyone else wondering--if you go to the DMV website page for a specific office, they show current wait times plus wait times for the 3 closest other offices.  Keep an eye on it and you'll figure out when and which office to hit.
